The CGI is great, and the scenery and the costumes were excellent. The acting, on the other hand, is horrid. It was not so much the actors fault, but more the direction and overly dramatic phraseology that just didn't sound right. Some scenes that could have taken 10 seconds took 10 minutes. It felt like they put as much bloat in it as they could to make it a 2 hour movie. I found myself thinking, "when is this movie going to end??"
This movie cost around $150mil to make, and box office opening came in just over $8mil. It's worth a rent, but I would save your $25 from the theater.

Best movie i have seen in years. Speccial effects, fantastic..acting, so real was entralled. Too bad i had to see it on a blackmarket bootleg copy because no theater anywhere near me (i live in Maine), was showing it. Honestly thinking about taking 2 days and driving to Mass. just to see it in the theater though. :)

This movie is a miss-mash of too many past movies and most of what it does is tedious and boring. For example, there are several scenes that reminded me of Lord of the Rings: Return of the King. Many scenes are blatant rip-offs, but I couldn't find one of them where it was jokingly copying or actually improving on the original. Some elements of the story were interesting and the tension between the true Samurai and Keanu (known in the movie as "the half-breed)) had potential. The special effects are also fair and drew my attention. All in all, this movie fails to do things right and keep our attention. It's really too bad, because Reeves needs to make a comeback.

Definitely not a show you should take the kids too. I'd hesitate to take either of my older kids (12 & 13)
Consistent with many Japanese stories, the ending isn't a happily ever after, so if that doesn't bother you.
The story is well told. The acting isn't necessarily bad, though it works because of the stoic nature that samurai are often expected to put forth. All in all, I enjoyed the show and effects.

We saw this in an early release so the only option was 2D. We all came away with the same comment: for a movie heavily reliant on special effects, they really were not very good. It has occurred to me since that it was designed really for the 3D viewer and those same effects might well be spectacular in 3D. Otherwise, it was a moderately entertaining movie with beautiful sets, costuming and an easy good v. evil storyline that doesn't really tax the imagination. So it was not a bad way to spend a couple of hours during the holiday.
