Very entertaining & great FX -- enjoyed the lush scenes & action. Don't believe some of the critics who didn't like it because haters just want to hate. Not every film has to have a hidden message. Movies are meant to be escapist fiction -- lighten up people!!! If you like watching Asian-themed films, you'll enjoy this one. Keanu Reeves is wonderful & in his element as an action star. Kids will probably like the monsters, but parents should be aware of what is age appropriate for their own children & what may be too frightening for them to handle, depending on their age group. I think certain kids over the age of 10 are fine, but again, it's the parent's discretion.

Very Slow

It wasn't what we were expecting. It was very slow. If we had to do it again...we wouldn't have wasted our money, and would have rented it instead!

We enjoyed this movie. I will say it didn't live up to what I had built in my head. The first half of the movie moved pretty slow. But all in all we enjoyed the movie.

Good story - twist on real events

If you like action and a good story line focused on strong values, this is a good one. The special effects were excellent. It appeared that the Shogun culture was accurately portrayed with a bit of mythology, very much in the vain of the classics. Thoroughly - enjoyed it.

47 Ronin is full of action and adventure, but there is little background or character development. Even Reeves' character isn't explained until close to the end of the movie. The director has made little effort to flesh out the motivations and needs of his characters, probably because the story is legend and involves magical events. Regardless, one feels for the suffering of the main characters and understands the ties between the two lovers. The acting is superb. The theme of honor and discipline before self is admirably common in Japanese society, and is familiar to many in the American military. That said, I thoroughly enjoyed the story, the history, the scenery, the characters and their predicaments. The movie glorifies the concepts of self-discipline and strong character and I loved the beauty of the landscapes. I recommend it.
