I was Entertained!!!

This movie is not great at anything, but is good at a lot of things. Good drama story, good love story, good special effects, and good acting. Though I am a Reeves fan, I was not in a hurry to see him play a Samurai in this. However, the way it was written, just like in the other 2 movies I like with him in it, Matrix and walk in the clouds, it worked. Nothing was overdone, the fight/karate scenes are not over the top as expected, but are artful and tasteful. Kinda like curse of the golden flower movie, but no where near as epic. My girlfriend who is not a big Reeves or karate movie fan, but does like good superhero movies of which there are few lately, also enjoyed it. We both liked it better than the last Thor, Superman, Spiderman and wolverine of which Thor was the only one that was decent.

Movies Over Books

As much as I have always loved reading books it's movies like this that make the point that there is really no comparison. Visually this movie is as stunning as they come. Saw it in 3-D, but I don't think the experience was worth any extra money, so definitely go see this, but skip the bump in payout.

47 Ronin

I was at the first viewing yesterday. And my honest opinion is that 47 Ronin is wonderful in every way and go see it if you can. If there had been any less of Keanu I would have been ticked off. Pacing could not have been better. Telling this ancient Japanese story for modern day audiences is very tricky. Since they had a bucket of money they made it extremely watchable with much spectacle and special effects. But the naturalism of Kai in the woods, Kai in front of a fire, Kai with his peers, Kai with his abusers, Kai with a woman he knows he cannot have in this life. That is what is special about it for me. Not the amazing action, not the historic tale, not the exquisite cinematography, sound track, or costumes. It was his presence that made the movie. His understated and totally undeniable presence. His magical screen presence that lends itself perfectly to the ensemble cast. I am crystal clear why Keanu took this part. I will be seeing 47 Ronin again...and again.

It was Fine

This movie did not need to be 3D at all, those scenes were just as good in standard movie mode. The movie was a good movie, better if you knew the story before or had read the book- it took a while to figure out who everyone was, the character development lacked in the beginning.
