The movie was very good, special effects were quite good. Loved the story line behind the movie. Loved the ending, even though I thought that it would end a bit differently.

The movie had a few good action segments , but the expressions and feelings were just not there. I enjoyed it, but not enough to see it a second time. its a good way to spend a few hours to relax. id say its average.

This was an entertaining movie with good special effects, although I don't think you would miss much if you don't see it in 3D. The end was a bit anticlimactic but supposedly it is based off a true legend from Japan. Worth seeing.

I Dig Classical Samurai Movies & Still Liked It

Well the original tale did not have a love interest, no half breeds, no shape-shifting witches, and no mystical creatures living in the woods... Personally I wish they would do a more classic telling of this story, ala 13 Assassins, but this was enjoyable nonetheless. Honestly there is not as much action as you might think -- but it didn't feel lacking to me (there was a guy griping about the lack of action behind me, apparently he thought it was going to be all out the whole movie). Personally I wish there was a bit more drama during the scene where the justice was delivered, but all in all it was better than I thought it would be. The characters could have a little more depth. The costuming and cinematography were outstanding. I might have to watch some of my old Samurai favorites on holiday break like Kagemusha, The Sword of Desperation, Twilight Samurai, etc... Nice to see Keanu back in action.

Save your money...

Note: I made an account just so I could review this movie... First off, this is a Japanese type "supposedly" historical adaptation, but within the first five minutes, you realize that it is spoken in English. It would've been better with English sub-titles, like in Crouching Tiger. Second, Keanu Reeves...still was not a compelling performance. Third, they crossed the line with having SOME magic, but yet (spoiler alert!) the swords are not imbuded with magic, Keanu's character has only one skill (really fast reflexes?) and doesn't morph into any kind of demon. If you are going to add in witches and demons into a "historical" adaptation, go for broke. Fourth, the final fight scenes were far too short. The leader-guy (forgot his name) and Ishi's fight was far too easy. Last, where did Ishi get a map of the entire region when all of his Samurai were banished? I could go on, but I only have 1000 characters. Special effects and outfits were good, the rest...meh.
