A rebellious artist sees a creative community rise and fall with a change in the political climate in this period drama, adapted from the autobiography of Czech poet Egon Bondy. Ivan Heinz (Krystof Hadek) is an iconoclastic writer and bohemian who revels in the new spirit of creative and social freedom that is sweeping Prague after the end of World War II. While Ivan is committed to his art, he's just as passionate about Jana (Karolina Gruszka), a beautiful and free-spirited woman who embraces free love with both men and women. While Jana is initially cool to Ivan's advances, she eventually warms to his charm and they become a couple. Ivan and Jana's idyllic time of love and intellectual freedom proves to be short lived; as the Communists take control of Czechoslovakia, Prague's bohemian community is targeted by Stalinists, who object to their lifestyle and philosophy.
