loriGTO's review of 3:10 to Yuma

    by loriGTO

In an age where people don't make westerns, the director made a damn good western. It was surprisingly relaxing not to be blasted with constant GCI. Instead, the focus is on the acting, imagine that! And there is plenty of action- the great kind of action when a gun is seriously dangerous, as opposed to a super mega mutant lab ray. Great movie, and a nice change from the normal!

    All Aboard

The lead actors (Crowe and Bale) put up strong believable roles that stick with you till the end. The movie is slow to open up, but the last 1/3 of the movie is what sold it. heartfelt ending. Crowe pulled it off!! Go see this movie.

    Better than Unforgiven

No offense Clint, your westerns are loved, but this remake of 3:10 is the best contribution to this genre I've seen in decades. Crowe and Bale are outstanding, and the action is fast-paced enough to keep things interesting while still allowing the characters room to develop dramatically. Even if you're not a fan of western flicks, you should give this one a chance, for the acting, for the adventure, and for the scenery--you won't be disappointed.

    3:10 to Yuma

If you like westerns, or even if you don't, this a movie is a must see! It was great to see Russell Crowe so on his game, and Ben Foster has the crazy-eyed, creepy villian down pat. Christian Bale with his solid, stoic, quiet performance is perfect here. In fact, there is not one actor cast that didn't add something to the whole.

To be truthful, I wasn't sure what to expect and believe it or not, I'm a pretty harsh critic, but without giving anything away...this flick has one of the most "wicked giood" endings I've ever seen and that's saying something.

Thanks boys! That was worth my entertainment buck and then some! Yeehaw!

ATTENTION: anyone really interested in seeing this movie; some of the gifted people who wrote prior reviews saw fit to give away way too much info about this movie, such as the ending. Thanks, DA ! Don't read the long reviews, because they will ruin it for you too.

    Awesome movie!

This movie starts out a little slow but steadily picks up steam as it moves along. Everyone should see this one. The ending will literally blow you away. It's really a good story and Russel Crow's performance makes this move a spectacular movie. I highly recommend this one.

    Let Down

Baddest outlaw in town gets a heart for his captor. Give me a break. Terrible movie. A disgrace to the western genre.

    3:10 to Yuma

Spectular movie!! Russell Crowe is magnificent as the outlaw, Ben Wade. Christain Bale and Ben Foster were also incredible in their roles. The only unbelievable portions of the movie were Peter Fonda's miraculous recovery from (in those days) what likely would have been a mortal gunshot wound to the gut; he appears raring to go on the ride to Yuma in the next scene -- um, bad writing folks; too, the last scene where several outlaws are spraying bullets everywhere only to miss their one and only target, Bale aka Evans, not likely!

I read the reviews prior to going and was expecting some disappointment in the ending. I was thrilled with the ending, absolutely loved and appreciated the irony and emotion. The "whistle" from the train made me smile!!

Let's bring Wade back for a sequel....amazing movie.

    Shoot 'Em Up

Great movie. I don't particularly care for Russell Crowe but he made me feel sorry for him even tho' he was villianous! Go see it! It's great.

Christian Bale?? What's to say? He got me hooked when I saw "Empire of the Sun". Ben Foster is wonderful as his son, also.

    Bale is good

Seems like there were a lot of Western or ?Western-like? films out this year. Many of them quite good, this film being no exception. I really enjoyed Bale?s performance, I think he is a top-notch actor. Though this type of film seems to suit Russell Crowe I wasn?t crazy about his performance. However over all I?d say this movie is definetly worth a rent if you are itchin? for a show down!

A western like we have all been waiting for...

Great return to quality westerns - like Silverado and the old Clint Eastwoods and for those of you that go that far back, Shane! Feels like you are in the Wild West - dust everywhere, you can almost smell the sweaty, dirty clothes worn by the characters. Good "bad guy" in Russel - the guy you love to hate. And the ending was unexpected and fresh. We need more westerns like this!

Truly the best western in years!

This was a great film! I enjoyed every minute of this film. Great acting combined with an engaging story. Ben Foster is brilliant as Charlie Prince, and this is Russell Crowe at his finest.

    3:10 Revisited

    by Mr.V60

As a rule, I don't like remakes( the wife's trying futily to get me to go see "Heartbreak Kid"), but this do-over of the 1957 Western, starring Glenn Ford as the outlaw,Ben Wade, and Van Heflin as good guy, Dan Evans, (from a short story by one of my fave writers, Elmore Leonard), was due to be remade: and the resulting film was worth the wait! Russell Crowe as Wade, and Christian Bale as Evans, give powerful, insightful performances as they intertwine on their journey through bad guys, injuns', and connivin' railroaders to bring Wade to justice. The Western movie genre "ain't what it used to be", but this flick is the best of it's kind in a long while. Though it isn't "Unforgiven"(Eastwood's classic), it will not go unforgotten.

    WOW

    by daf11

By the end, you will be on the edge of your seat. Ben Wade has never met a person or situation he couldn't seduce, perdict and control, that is until Evans...

Beatifully photographed, and acted, it takes you on a journey of two men, who's live path is carved by a humiliating event... one read the Bible, the other lived it, and what happens when thier worlds converge.

See this movie, you won't regrett it.

    3:10 to Yuma

An excellant, keep you on the edge-of-your-seat western and a successful remake. Intense and riveting, the feel and the pace of this film is great, and the casting is very good. Both Christian Bale and Russell Crowe shine as avertised, although Christian Bale does a better job with covering his welsh accent than Russell Crowe does with his aussie accent (a minor detail but one that caught my attention nonetheless). The other actors do a fine job as well. The film itself does a good job of providing an insightful character study of the primary characters without undermining the main plot of the story. Gretchen Mol does very well with her character and I found it interesting to see her in a western movie role after seeing her in the movie "The Notorious Betty Page." It was also nice to see Peter Fonda in this movie and I like what he did with his role. I will definitely go and see this movie again!
