Don't Be Late For the 3:10

This is an exceptionally WELL-DONE thriller, with fine acting by all the leads (Russell Crowe [as the outlaw leader], Christian Bale [as the problem-filled "Good Guy" rancher], Logan Lerman [as Bale's oldest son], Ben Foster [as Crowe's assistant], and admirable work by the numerous "side" characters. The Western (a remake of a 1957 classic about trying to get a prisoner to jail via an expected train) is suspenseful, well-photographed & enjoyable (except for the loyalty-challenged end, which -- in retrospect -- made little "sense" psychologically. But, since the leads take such a "bite" with their roles, I rate this as Highly Recommended.

loriGTO's review of 3:10 to Yuma

In an age where people don't make westerns, the director made a damn good western. It was surprisingly relaxing not to be blasted with constant GCI. Instead, the focus is on the acting, imagine that! And there is plenty of action- the great kind of action when a gun is seriously dangerous, as opposed to a super mega mutant lab ray. Great movie, and a nice change from the normal!

If you like Silverado and deadwood you will love 3:10 to Yuma...

I took my wife to the preview showing last Sunday night and must say we both were delighted with this film and not disappointed with the story, acting or western authenticity. The ending was disappointing but necessary I guess if you see the movie you will know what I mean, go to someone else's review if you want to spoil the surprise. We are crazy HBO Deadwood fans and for us to like this movie after three seasons of the best ever western on film is saying something. Russel Crowe is excellent as the bad guy you grow to like, Christian Bayle is the scarred civil war veteran as this story unfolds in the late 1860's. Bayles character has a son that stole the screen, outstanding acting job from a 15 yr old boy. You got your celestials, as we call em in deadwood. Lots of shooting and life is cheap but finds opportunity at bizzarre off color humor. Kids over 12 OK, lots of guys shot at a distance no up close dying or blood and guts. A few really cruel killings but no sex.

Bale is good

Seems like there were a lot of Western or “Western-like” films out this year. Many of them quite good, this film being no exception. I really enjoyed Bale’s performance, I think he is a top-notch actor. Though this type of film seems to suit Russell Crowe I wasn’t crazy about his performance. However over all I’d say this movie is definetly worth a rent if you are itchin’ for a show down!

Baddest outlaw in town gets a heart for his captor. Give me a break. Terrible movie. A disgrace to the western genre.
