Frank Miller At His Best
Frank Miller, known for his comic book-ish movies really pulled out another one... With top noch graphix and a great historic event, this movie is sure to be one of the top grossing movies of the Y2K... Although partial historically incorrect, 300 really draws you in with graphic fight scenes and rock out music battle themes... It was the Athenians, from Athens, who asked the Spartans for help against the Persian Empire but they declined assistance... So 300 Athenian soilders and civilians left the city of Athens to hideout... While the Persian army invaded the city and found ir was empty, they destroyed the city and decided to leave... That's where the Athenian Army ambushed Xerxes army by sea... But that wouldn't have made such a great movie like the one Frank Miller and Zach Snyder produced. "THIS IS SPARTA!!!"

Super-Size Value Meal
300 is an overblown, bombastic, pointless exercise in violence, gore and disturbing imagery. Critics have already complained about the depiction of Persians in the film as decadent, depraved, dishonest & manipulative. However, there's no political or social agenda in place here, it's just a bad movie coming out of a production system that seems to be suffering from a bankruptcy of good ideas. The IMAX version of the film may be somewhat more fulfilling due to its sheer spectacle, however, the artifice of the film is overwhelming: The CG looks like CG, the compositing is unnatural and even the live actors look like animated characters. My overall impression of 300 is that it's the cinematic equivalent of a super-size value meal: instant gratification, laden with trans-fats, steroids, antibiotics and artificial ingredients that makes you ill after providing you with two hours of viscera. Don't wate your time.
