Fascinating film as it explored the particular musicianship - and life's challenges - of backup singers. Some were familiar but others were revelations. In particular, Lisa Fischer's current singing brought tears from it's shear emotion. Will definitely be watching for her - and Judith Hill.

Great film ,very informative. Gives a whole new aspect to the business of stardom and what it takes to become the one out front. Great singing, I want the album.

Fascinating doc on the REAL stars that sing behind the stars. The Rolling Stones. Bruce Springsteen. Chris Botti. Michael Jackson. Phil Spector. The list goes on....

This film is so rich in content — from pop culture music history to archived and contemporary performances of music we grew up with — that it was hard to absorb it all in a single viewing. Add to the mix insightful commentary from stars like Bruce Springsteen, Sting, Mick Jagger, Stevie Wonder and others about the impact that gospel-rooted black female voices made and continue to make on popular music and you’d have a lot. But artfully woven into all this are a handful of compelling stories of luck, hard work, musicianship, spectacular rises and heart-wrenching falls — and roads inexplicably not taken. And finally — the takeaway that not all talent is best expressed center stage.

For anyone who has appreciated music over the past 40+ years up to now - this movie covers the singers that made it happen. The ups/downs of singing back-up.
