We liked it. It was very well done but disturbing. Acting was excellent. The truth hurts. We're glad we did not live in that era. It's not for everyone. We totally understand the Oscar nominations.

A Masterpeice

This is Steve McQueen's third film and his best. It depicts the unbelievable true story of Solomon Northup who is a free black man living in New York pre-Civil War. He is tricked and sold into slavery and is at the mercy of his masters for twelve long, horrible, torturous years. Chiwetel Ejiofor is a force of nature as Solomon playing the role of a free man forced to live this hell and looking for an opportunity to escape. The rest of the cast Michael Fassbender, Sarah Paulson, Paul Giamatti, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Paul Dano are a superb, but it is newcomer Lupita Nyong'o who is most compelling. She plays Patsey, the beautiful slave girl who receives the unwanted attention of Master Edwin Epps (Fassbender) as well as the wrath of Mistress Epps (Paulson). But this story is about Solomon and Ejiofor maintains the dignity and hope of this man kfrom beginning to end. And for that I will be rooting for him and the film come awards season.

Good acting, but the movie goes NOWHERE

The movie is the same thing for two long, tedious hours. The message is that all slave-owners are bad, that all slaves except this one are numbed to the point of soullessness, and that a deus-ex-machina ending can be counted on to save the just. Don't waste your time and money.

Twelve Years A Slave

Heart-wrenching, Epic and essential must see Historical movie about the tragedies-inhuman Institution of Slavery and the brave Black people of African descent that endured such cruelty conditions for nearly 400 yrs. Black American men, women and children of African descent that went through such an painful-horrific inhuman treatments (I pay and give much homage/honors to those Brave Souls that wanted a better life for generations to come...'Rest In Peace) and "many/millions" of them had the well power, strength and Spirit to survive. EXCELLENT all Star Casting: Chiwetel Ejiofor - 12 Yrs. A Slave, is OSCAR worthy.
