This is a powerful film regarding slavery. It showed the brutality of it and how unethical Americans were back in the day. It makes you wonder: "how is America so great?" The acting is very good in this film as I expected. The Oscar nominations are deserved. A must go for those who love learning the history of America but can handle the truth. I enjoyed the film, but at the same time, the content made me angry and want to question everything. Essentially, the film did it's job.

I saw this right after finishing the book, and was pleased to see that they stayed true to it. Obviously there were scenes which had to be condensed or removed, but they were done without altering the story or the message Mr Northrop intended in his memoir. He would be proud.

I truly liked the movie. What folks failed to realize is those types of things and conditions existed when slavery was legal. Though I would recommend the picture to those 16 years of age and older. The acting, directing, cinematogrpahy and writing for the screen play was excellent. Great job depicting the realities of slavery. What kind of ratings are these: Oh No, No, So-so, go, must go? All of these appear to be negative ratings so where is the positve ones. I selected what I thought but this is really crazy. I bet you won't publish this review!

While some of the scenes in this movie weren't the easiest to watch, the story is a very important one. It is incredibly well written. I cannot give this movie enough praise. I recommend it to everyone. It's sad to know that this was based on a true story and that one human could treat another in that manner.
