^ These are the movies I've seen so far, and none of them can hold a candle in what they have to offer in emotional impact as "12 Years A Slave". I'm still a bit unsettled with what I saw. This is not an easy movie to watch. There were times where I had to bow my head and close my eyes to actually blunt the impact of what I was seeing.

This is a very important time in America's history that should be understood by every American. There is still much we can learn so as not to repeat history and to work toward preventing slavery in other countries.I thought the movie was very well done, brutally honest, and a tribute to resiliency. I doubt I would have been able to be so strong and endure such treatment. This is what happens when people convince themselves that they are better than others and can treat others as lesser beings. It's destructive all the way around.

This isn't DJango, a superhero adaptation about a blackman's psyche, or Roots, a textbook documentary. Rather, Twelve Years A Slave is that dream you have about real life events, that causes cold sweats, intense breathing and heart pounding because you are reliving a past that you have learned to skillfully suppress.

It looks as though the reviewer below did not know all of the facts before throwing Baton Rouge under the bus. This movie was released early to large market cities only. It will be released nationwide November 1st and therefore it IS listed and will be playing in Baton Rouge. And by the way you said - "white people should take responsibility for the actions of our ancestors." Well everyone has an ancestor (however far back) that has done some something horrible. Would that by your responsibility? I don't think so. We are all the positive future and it starts with you and me and everyone. Great movie but incredibly sad!!

Great & Powerful Film! Not easy for the weak of heart, but a Story of history that needed to be told. I found mind blowing was that after all the labor, abuse, rape & just the mean & legal entitlement slave owners had. On Sunday's they appointed themselves as Pastor & Minister of the WORD OF GOD! As a form to brainwash the people they abused. When I look at some people of this country now I see the same and understand why they want to return the oppress disease over this country again. Thank You Fandango for a sounder experience.
